The
cream of Mumbai Cricket was on view in
the Prabodhan Goregaon Twenty 20 Cricket
Tournament to be played between 6-9 Feb
2008. Top outfits Mumbai Police Gymkhana,
D.Y.Patil Gymkhana, New Hind Club, Shivaji
Park Gymkhana, National Cricket Club,
Parkophene, Cricket Club of India and
Pantaloon Sports Club have confirmed
their participation in the tournament,
officially recognized by the Mumbai Cricket
Association.
The brainchild of Subhash Desai, MLA and
founder of Prabodhan Goregaon, the tournament
carried cash prize of Rs. 1 Lac to the winners
and Rs. 50,000/- to the runners-up, along
with a handsome trophy.
The player of the tournament was presented
a Motor Bike. With a number of former and
current Ranji and test stars billed to play
it was a veritable feast for the suburban
cricketlovers.
Prabodhan Goregaon had earlier organized
a few cricket tournaments like, the test
cricketer Ajit Pai Benefit Match and a Double
Wicket Cricket Tournament, in which the two
little masters, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar
and Sanjay Manjrekar had displayed their
wares.
The finals were slated for 9th February 2008
at 2:30p.m. On the other days the matches
commenced at 9:30a.m. and ended at 5:30p.m.
The tournament was inaugurated by Sanjay
Potnis, cricket loving chairman of BEST,
according to a press release issued by Anil
Desai, Chief Secretary of Prabodhan.
Results of the 20-20 match:
National Cricket Club scored a four-wicket
win against D Y Patil Sports Academy to the
title in the inaugural edition of the T20
Cricket Tournament. National received a cheque
of Rs. 1 lakh rupees and a trophy from former
Indian skipper and chairman of the national
selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar.
