Looking
at the chemical reactions of allopathic medicines,
the world especially the western and the developed
countries have directed their attention towards Natural
remedies and medical treatments from herbal medicines.
Hungary has already stated that Ayurveda is the most
effective form of treatment. Countries like America
and Germany are using herbal medicines on a large scale.
In India, the tradition of using Ayurveda was introduced
by the ancient sages and also observed among the adivaasi
population. The history of Ayurveda is not only ancient
but also very vast.
Right from grandma’s purse to technologically advanced manufacturing companies;
the spread of Ayurveda is very vast. Ambitious Doctors, Manufacturers and many
workers have been engaged in this business. In the year 1948, out of all the
medicine producers, 74% were Multi National Companies (MNCs). Currently this
percentage has fallen to 24% and many MNCs manufacturing medicines have been
replaced by the Indian Companies. It had been stated by well known experts that
the Global Market for Indian herbal medicines is currently Rs. 600 crores and
expected rise to Rs. 4000 crores. Even the Indian Government is making efforts
to help earn more profits from herbal medicines. There have been problems related
to the continuous supply of raw material, issues related to the standards fixed
for the manufactured output and also the growing deforestation of the medicinal
plants and herbs. The authority of labeling the prices for the herbal medicines
resided with the manufacturing company. This makes the Ayurvedic medicines very
costly and difficult to afford. Keeping this in mind, the medicines that can
be easily obtained and easy to use medicines should reach the masses. |
